Necromunda #1

It's been a long time... Hopefully summer and my holidays are comming. With break from university I will have more time for painting. Some time ago I discovered Necromunda. Well I was aware of fact that such game exist but never really realized how great it is. As a fan of postapocalypse of all kinds I felt Necromunda like home. I dare to say that Necromunda has on of the richest story and background from the all GW systems. It blends with 40k universe in great way and create it own unique setting. While there is more than enough different gangs and characters in Necromunda to suit everyons taste, nothing really stop you from creating your own or including some 40k characters ( like Marines, Orks or famous Genestealers cult). You can download Necromunda rulebook for free from GW website. And since GW is offering it for free I think downloading its older version is legal. I recomend it because of great Eavy Metal pictures and more content.
My collection is slowly growing. I will paint them whenever I could. And post pictures ofcourse. So far I have done 2 Underhive Scums, one Bounty Hunter and one Pit Slave. Enjoy :)

I thought it's a good idea to expand a little my hobby and try something new. I love GW miniatures but its good to breath some fresh air from time to time. After some research in CMON I have found Copplestone Castings. Some of You may know this company. It remainds me Foundry a little. They have pretty good prices. A set of 4-5 miniatures costs from 6,5 to 8,5 pounds. So it's not bad comparing to GW or Reaper. Copplestone Castings has some very nice range of miniatures. Adventurers, Gangsters, Dark Future, 1st World War, Fantasy, Darkest Africa, etc. I really like their design. CC miniatures ( imo ) are not super serious. They look a bit like characters from comics or old movies. They remaind me childhood and all those old movies, like Indiana Jones, Mad Max or Aliens ( they even has some marines very similar to those form movie and Predator miniatures :P ). I was in mood for 30s and prohibition so I ordered some miniatures form their gangsters range.

Here it is. Nice looking with some nice amount of details and a few flash lines. I would say 5/5 points. They are supplied with 20mm bases which look funny compearing to GW 25mm bases. But they suits CC minis perfectly. Don't know why because CC and GW minis are the same scale. They just do look better on 20mm.

I hope to find some time and paint them. Then I will post pictures.

Just a few very short thoughts.
GW just updated their website with new advenced order options. Legion of the Damned was resurected. After Space Wolves fail ( in terms of designe it was fail imo ) im surprised that LotD look pretty good. Maybe I will buy some ?
I really like their multimelta design. Heavy flamer is also very nice. It remainds me some conversion for ultramarines army from WD 357.

Im looking foward to see GW reviving more old stuff. Eg. Necromunda, Mordheim.

Finally I got my copy of Space Hulk :D Yes, it was worth it. There was so many reviews that You already know everything about what is in the box. I just want say one word: quality. Quality means Space Hulk and Space Hulk means quality. When You hold it in your hands and feel the weight, when You open it etc You know it was worth it, every single penny. Im realy impresed by the fact that tere is almost no flash on the models. Ok, thats all, now I will go and enjoy my Space Hulk :)

Edit: Wow, I was not aware of the fact how big broodlord is. Hes much bigger than terminator and with his base he is like twice the termiantor size !

Space Hulk Terrain & Shops Review

Space Hulk is almost here so I want to show You some SH terrain I have found in internet. Ofcourse not all because there is much more of them. But surprisingly not as much as You might think. Well I hope this will change after 3rd edition release becaus Sh deserve something more than some cardboard terrain. So check the photos, enjoy SH atmosphere and maybe make some of your own terrain. I wish I could afford buying another SH box as prize and make some contest for SH diorama or terrain :P But Im poor.

First SH terrain I want to show You is in my opinion one of the best and the coolest.

It's made from plaster casts. It's modular, rooms, corridors, corners etc. and each piece is magnetized so it stay on pleace when You put them together. Also what makes it so great in my opinion is fact that the tiles are 40mm like new terminators bases. So there is enough space to use your regular models or based terminators from 3rd Space Hulk.

This one was designed and made from the begining. All pieces was made from foam, plasticard and other materials, then silicon mold was made and then they were used to make resin casts. Really great work. I like how narrow are the corridors. It really gives the feeling of being surrounded and have no way to run.

This is the las one I want to show and talk about. It's not Space Hulk terrain but Warhammer Quest ( sorry if im wrong, never played WQ ).
It is interesting because of how many work guy who made it put into this project. And the level of details, ideas, painting, everything is awesome. I think it's basicly ordinary cardboard terrain converted to 3d. Would be cool to see somebody converting Space Hulk tiles in the same way.

Space Hulk, im not dead and some notes

It's been a long time since my last post here. I will explain myself in farther part of my post.
But now ! what excite me and I belive many others here... Space Hulk :) Yes, i've already preordered mine. And I cant wait to get it in my hands. No need to talk more, there is so many articles, reviews and other space hulk stuff in internet.

I only want to say I like a lot Mike McVey Space Hulk dioram which you may see in new WhiteDwarf.
I couldn't find better pic in internet. I will try to get some old terminators and paint them as deathwing. I really like oldschool gw models and painting style. Getting some 1st or 2nd edition Space Hulk box might be also nice but since I will have 3rd ed box and 1st and 2nd box are very hard to find and expensive I don't think I will try to get them. A few old terminators and maybe stealers will be enough to feed my oldschool obsesion :P

In the meanwhile i encourage you to play this mini space hulk game. It's only 25MB but it's very fun to play and nice warm up before real space hulk :)

Talking about oldschool. I bought a few old minis. They probably will be painted as ultramarines in old colour scheme.
Some time ago ( a few months :P ? ) my prize for 1st place in "Take Cover" painting contest arrived. Here are pictures. And misterious body warmer at the bottom :P

I also took 2nd place in MiniWarGaming Platinum Brush Contest in single fantasy category with my warrior priest.

I was not updating my blog for so long because I was very busy and haven't painted to much minis. There was a lot work on university and its going to be more soon. I was on holidays and got some other duties and activities.
My new helmet finally arrived after some long journey from USA.

And im trying to ride as much as possible on my bike till its summer and weather is good.

I guess summer is bad time for me as painter ( but good as rider :] ) and my painting activity will increase in winter time. Meanwhile i will try to update my blog more often and find soem time for painting.

Colour scheme is actually a bit younger, it's I think form third edition eldar codex, 1999, ( see below ) while miniature itself is from 1992. I have two other fire dragons but I will will paint them differently.

Another little update of my ork truck. I've added a little details and machinegun turret. Also magnetized, 360' and you can take it off or swap with bigger turret. Im pretty satisfied with my scrath build machingunes ( one attached to turret and another, last photo, not sure where to stick second one thought ) I've also made openalbe hatch in my turret, im planning to make magnetized ork ( actually half :P ) and stick him there when hatch is open. Kind of commander or just ork with some gun. That's all so far, will be posting updates.

In my personal opinion Mike who got 2nd place did better job then I. Glowing heat damage, face, cheast eagle and awesome soulderpad, he got skill. Really awesome.

Another update of my work in progress Ork Truck. Not many has changed since last update :P I've made turret. It's magnetized, can move 360' and you can take it off any time you want. Im thinking of few kinds of turrets, so I can choose which one I want. I also tried to magnetize this crane but im not sure if i will use it. I plan to make a few home made machineguns, just to save money. Any ideas where can I attach machinegunes ? One will be at the top of driver's cab. Not sure where to put the other. Well, that's it for now. Next update is coming soon.

Tyranids !

I just couln't stopp myself from starting Tyranids army. I think battleforce is the best way to start, it's very cheap for what you get inside. Carnefix, warriors, genestealers and some gaunts, thats all what i need for begining. It's greate feeling when You open for the very first time a GW box, battleforce size. There is just so many stuff !

As always my bigger problem was colour scheme. I've decided to paint them Leviathan. Now I regreat a bit. Because Krakne is also great and with new washes it might be much easier and faster to do. Here is my first tyranid. I feel like I messed up the crevasses and details. he look good from distance, but when You look closer, it's just not right.

I think I must put much more effort in details. I tried to paint them fast. But since i don't play I think its worth to spend some more time on painting. I already almost finished my first squad but i guess I will try to repaint some of the details.

The only bad thing about Tyranids is genestealers box, which contains only two tendrils heads. I want my whole genestealers squad have them. I don't think buying 3 genestealers boxes would be reasonable. I decided to sculpt them. Belowe You can se my first attempt to sculpting ever. Upper part is to big and tendrils need more details but I thought it will be much worse, so Im pretty happy.

As I promised, here is frist update ( or second :P ? ). I've used so far plasticard, pieces of wood and kind of garden plastic wire fenc. I used green stuff to make rivets/screws, but if I will find something more appropriete I will repleace gren stuff. This dozer thing look like if it were touching ground but its not. Hovever maybe I will make it a little shorter so truck could ride easily on rough terrain. That's it for now.

Oldschool GW minis

I always liked warhammer since I was a child. But due to lack of money, time, skills and other things which stopped me form starting warhammer it took me 10 years form when I first time saw White Dwarf magazine to about half year ago when i bought my first box. Well, actually AOBR is not my first attempt to miniatures. I bought 3 eldars when i was maybe 10 years old or so, im not really sure, it was a long time ago. At the very first begining i didn't like teh old games workshop models. I thought they are to bright and funny. Latest GW miniatures are much darker and look more serious to me. I like them a lot. The kind of brutal, gloomy, depressing atmosphere which GW created. But I converted :D I still love present GW miniatures, they are great. But I also no longer thinks that old GW minis suck. Actually i felt in love with them. Take a look ( im not sure if it's legal to show this pictures but they are from one of the first GW books, they are no longer in sale, and miniatures from it neither so i think its ok )

Just look at that, i mean look at that ! Fresh green goblins, and space marine flamer ! How colorful they are. Like from a candy store.

Space marines look unbelievable awesome, with their red/yellow weapons. Look at the orks, how bright and colorful they are. You wont find today anything from GW what look like that, it just doesnt happen. You might think that they dont look like a "real orks". Greenskins should be blodthirsty, scary monsters right ? But you can't really say that new minis are better or the old ones are. That they should be like this or like that. Those are just two completly different styles of painting and two completly different designs.

Look at bad moonz. For me they look very similar to marines ( armor, dreadnaughts ) Its only my opinion, it might be true or no. But I think that space marines was kinda base for all other races at the very first begining. All othere minis had something from them. And in the time they become more and more individual.

i would love to get some of those old Games Workshop miniatures in my hands. I think you can't find it anywhere now. They are just gone. The first GW mini I've ever bought was eldar fire dragon. Belowe top right corner

I actually tried to repain it few months ago. I have to find it and try to make it in the "old" style.
Check the genestealers cult, they are just classic ! I saw a few week asgo on DakkaDakka.com someones genestealers army. I think he used some of the old models and converted models.

I guess none of You know any any pleace where I could find any old minis ? like wbesite or something. If you know please leave a comment or send me a mail. But sadly i think ebay and similar pleaces are the only way to get them. Games Workshop should re-release some of the old miniatures. I know there is more people like me who thinks old models are awesome and would love to get them.

Due to contest im taking part in and annoying need to stick paper sheet to my display every time i want to take a photo i created today this little box. I used cardboard box and tracing paper. It took me half hour or less to make it. Well, it's not perfect and still need improvments but its much better than just one lamp and paper sheet.

Easy stone brick wall tutorial

Hi

I think its very easy, fast and cheap way to make some nice looking walls and other pieces of terrain for your gaming table. All You need is some putty/clay or whatever you can get. I used "Creall Do&Dry" air-drying modelling material for children, white. Mainly because its cheap, about 2 $ for 500g and its easy in use. You will also need hobby knife and matchstick.

Put your putty between two pieces of cardboard or something with flat surface and press it. You may use your hands or eg. a book.
Then cut it with hobby knife to squares. Use wash sponge or rocks to make some texture.

You may also make other pieces of terrain. Eg. graves

Then cut brick lines with your knife. They don't have to be perfect, feel free with any shape.Now use matchstick (sharp edge) to make gaps between bricks look more realistic.
your wall should look more or less like this. It don't have to be square, use your imagination to give it some nice looking shapes. I've made also flat wall with no bricks, with bullet holes and wires in it, for WH40k terrain. It's all up to You.

Blood Angels, test & plans

Ahh Blood Angels, aren't they awesome ? I think they will be my second space marines army, somewhere in future. Now because of lack of funds and time they have to wait till my other projects will be done. I bought Mephiston, Dante and Carbulo on sale for future :P

A also tried two colour schemes on my test marines. First one is: black undecorate, then mechrite red, devland mud wash, few layers of blood red and blazing orange highlights. Second one is: white undecorate, blood red, devland mud wash, blood red, blazing orange. How do u like it ? They are almost the same, mainly because of so many blood red layers.

In future i want to paint a small BA army. Im planning to have :

1 tactical squad
1 rhion
10 men death company
1 mephiston
1 dante
1 carbulo
2 assault squads
1 devastators squad
1 chaplain

optional:

1 furious dread

Here is little sneakpeak of what am I doing. Terminators and Assault Squad in progress. I glued some rocks to assault marines bases and marines to them to make them more dynamic. I will post pic of them in better quality when they will be done. Hello there

Because of very little time and lot of things to do I have't been updating my blog for some time. Now i have two weeks of holidays, Xmass :D so i hope i will find some time for painting. Im after shopping so i have lot of models waiting me to paint them. As you may see belowe I bought two boxes of Space Marines Veterans.

MK I guys ( abowe^) [ its just 4 of them because 5th is in progress ] , and MK II ( belowe v). Both are fantastic, can't wait to get them painted.

Another model to my Space Marines collection, Captain Sicarius. I will assemble him with plasma pistol and helmet on. Maybe i will use head and hand holding helmet for other model in future. Will see.

I also bought Deamonhunters Inquisitor Lord. Mainly because of his fantastic hammer. I want use it for my Space Marines Commander which I also bought. But Inquisitor Lord is so great miniature itself that i want buy second box with him ( or maybe i will paint this one and buy second one for extra hammer for my commander, will see ) I will experiment on this one. Maybe blue armor. Im wondering how he will look as Ultramarines Inquisitor. I know there is no such thing but im not playing anyways, just collecting and painting so why not :P
Next on my shopping list is marneus Calgar with his Honour Guard. I just felt in love with him and have to buy him as fast is i can :P i know thats kinda ridicules, but hey, who may stand against two enermous power fist with bolters attached to them ? :P

So 1# on my list is Calgar

-Chaplain in terminator armour

You might ask: where are troops ? tactical squad ? rhino ? But i remind You im just collecting. And what i like the most is painting invidual characters. I really don't like painting dozens of almost same troops. I will get them in future, maybe SM Battleforce, cause its economic.

And last thing. Tyranids ! I think Tyranids Battleforce looks very interesting. Its just perfect to get some enemies for my marines. I think i will get one in near future. Just can't wait to see my marines standing against tyranids in my home exposition.

Hi

As I said yesterday here is my first part of finished terrain. I have to say that making all kinds of terrain gives me a lot of fun. I love painting my marines and other models but terrain making is really fast and relaxing, I dont need many hours to take care about ridiculously small details. And its something creative. I hope I will do some more terrain in future.

Hi

Since end of my holidays i have very little time for painting. However from time to time i have a few hours to grab a brush. I will post pictures of my first terminator and space marines capitan from AOBR. Im also working on some terrain. Here is little preview. More is coming soon.

Its a kind of cisterns made of yogurt cups and pipes made of straws attached to them. I will make them look rusty and old.

Space Marine Sergeant

I finished my Space Marines Sergeant. It was first time when I was painting miniature with face. Im not very satisfied about his eyes, they might be better. But as for first time its not so bad i think. I was thinking about cutting his left hand and adding a plasma gun or something. But i think he will stay as he is for now. Almost all sergeants have two weapons, so this pointing finger makes him kinda unique look.

Here are pictures of my Ork Nob. He is now finished. As You may niticed all my bases are unpainted and untextured. I will buy sand, grass and other stuff in near future and make them look better in one go.

There are still some guys waiting to be painted. I finished marine with flamer and few other and I will post pictures in better quality soon.

I also found this eldar somewhere in my desk. I bought this one about 12 years ago when I was a child. And its time to give him a chance. It's Eldar Fire Dragon, I think its very old version :P now they look different. I'm not sure how should I paint his head and weapon, will think about it. Any suggestions would be nice.

I just started collecting WH40. I bought AOBR box set and i will be posting my paintings here. Just becouse I would like to share this with anybody who wish to look at it. If you like it let me know, if not, well, I don't really care :P but any advices about painting would be nice, because I'm beginier and I want to learn more and improve my painting skill.
